Back in the late 1960s in my early teens, I picked up a Mills and Boon romance and instantly fell in love with reading romance. From that day on, I vowed I would one day write a romance novel and be published by Mills and Boon. My heroine and role model was Essie Summers and I am proud to say I have a complete collection of her sixty-seven books and take great pleasure in re-reading them often.
Fast forward to early 2011, when I made a life changing decision. Even though I was pre-retirement age, the world of full time work and a career in education had lost their appeal and I decided it was time to spend some quality time away from work doing the things I wanted to do. That Easter, I entered the Romance Writers Australia Valerie Parv Award competition and excitedly wrote the first three chapters of my virgin foray into the world of romance.
I pitched it to Mills and Book at the national conference in August but alas my voice was not for them, despite my years of dreaming the Mills and Boon dream.
Never one to be deterred from my single minded purpose, I confidently entered the Mills and Boon New Voices competition late in September 2011 and with great delight stayed high in the voting stakes and received some tremendous feedback
But alas, Mills and Boon was still not for me.
Unexpectedly, my journey took a delightful turn. Fast forward to Easter 2012 that same contemporary romance, Holiday Affair has culminated in the realisation of a dream come true. Picked up by the amazing Entangled Publishing where I have my very own personal publicist, it has now been in the top sellers on Amazon for over four months since its release in March 2012.
Entangled Publishing with its visionary leader, Liz Pelletier, has made some very savvy business decisions and is growing from strength to strength. Seven figure deals for The Marriage Bargain and discussions with film studios have seen the spectacular rise of this company.
I will be forever grateful to Entangled Publishing for taking up my book and allowing me to fulfil my dream and be a part of their exciting journey.
So readers of romance and dreamers of future publication... you can also dream of being contracted by Entangled Publishing.
After all, how many other publishers invite their authors to Las Vegas to celebrate success?
Fifteen days and counting till I board a flight to the United States.
