Drum roll…due to popular demand Carmen Falcone has dropped by to tell her Where is she now? story. Carmen’s book A Vengeful Affair was released this week almost a year since her debut in New Voices 2011. Carmen has kindly offered a copy of her book to one reader so if you would like to leave a comment we’ll pull a winner out of the hat next week.
I was really nervous when I entered New Voices. My experience sharing my projects was minimal, and back then I was completely comfy tucked inside my writer’s closet. Only my husband knew about my writing, and that was only because I needed him to watch our daughter so I could write or take workshops online. If I had run an illegal business I don’t think I would have managed to be so discreet. But I feared telling people, incase publication never happened for me?
New Voices gave me the opportunity to show my piece, learn where I had to improve and discover what was working. I didn’t final. After the competition was over, I sent my piece to M&B anyway and got a form rejection. I can’t deny I felt discouraged – since M&B is such sought-after publisher, it can take months for them to get back to you simply to say no.
Then, the freelance editor (and now my dear friend!) Annie Seaton, helped me make my manuscript shine and informed me about the rise of e-publishers. I sent my manuscript to three digital-first publishers. I was surprised by the immediacy of their response: two of them requested the full only a few hours after I had sent my query letter and first chapter. I was on cloud nine.
The rest is history. Entangled has just released my debut romance, A Vengeful Affair, and I couldn’t be more satisfied.
I am now working on two more manuscripts, and although I’ll sweat just the same when I submit them, at least now I know dreams of publication do come true.
A Vengeful Affair is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Bio - Carmen Falcone learned at an early age that fantasizing about fictional characters and places beat doing Math homework any day. She traveled the world, achieved a B.A. in Tourism in her hometown in Brazil and was soon invited to work in the USA, where she met her Swiss husband. She’d always dreamed of becoming a published writer, and after her daughter was born, she revisited that dream of writing – this time, unwilling to give it up. She lives in Austin and enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with her family and three high energy pugs.
