New Voices gave me the opportunity to show my piece, learn where I had to improve and discover what was working. I didn’t final. After the competition was over, I sent my piece to M&B anyway and got a form rejection. I can’t deny I felt discouraged – since M&B is such sought-after publisher, it can take months for them to get back to you simply to say no.
Then, the freelance editor (and now my dear friend!) Annie Seaton, helped me make my manuscript shine and informed me about the rise of e-publishers. I sent my manuscript to three digital-first publishers. I was surprised by the immediacy of their response: two of them requested the full only a few hours after I had sent my query letter and first chapter. I was on cloud nine.
The rest is history. Entangled has just released my debut romance, A Vengeful Affair, and I couldn’t be more satisfied.
I am now working on two more manuscripts, and although I’ll sweat just the same when I submit them, at least now I know dreams of publication do come true.

Bio - Carmen Falcone learned at an early age that fantasizing about fictional characters and places beat doing Math homework any day. She traveled the world, achieved a B.A. in Tourism in her hometown in Brazil and was soon invited to work in the USA, where she met her Swiss husband. She’d always dreamed of becoming a published writer, and after her daughter was born, she revisited that dream of writing – this time, unwilling to give it up. She lives in Austin and enjoys reading, traveling and spending time with her family and three high energy pugs.
