She likes the heroines in my stories to be beautiful, feisty, independent and headstrong. And the heroes must be strong but possess a generous amount of sensitivity. They are of course, also gorgeous! Her stories typically incorporate the family background of the characters to better understand where they come from and who they are.
She won an award for her first Afrikaans romance in 2010. Elsa's books Love in Writing and Touched to the Heart are both set in South Africa.
You can find out more about Elsa on her website. Thanks again for letting me join the fun, Elsa!
What is the name of your character? Dolly ... take the floor!
My name's Dolly (short for Dorothy, after my mother, but don't tell anyone). I'm about to make a new name for myself. I haven't quite worked out how yet but I've taken the first step in the right direction.
· When and where is the story set?
I grew up in a little country town called Wollombi but it was time to leave. I was sick of the run down watering hole where I'd spent the last six months trying to earn enough to keep body and soul together so I jumped a train and here I am in Sydney. I lined up a job at Mrs Mack's boarding house - it can't be too difficult. Changing sheets and cleaning is the same everywhere, isn't it?
· What should we know about you?
There's not a lot to know - yet. I'm about to make a name for myself. And how!
· What is your goal?
For goodness sake ... it's the 20s! Time for a girl to become a woman and fulfil her dreams. I'm going to take on everything this brash, bustling city has to offer ... and more!
· What is screwing up your life (main conflict in writerly speak)?
My brother, my brother's best friend and a choice bit of calico named Cynthia who thinks she's the bee's knees!
· What is the title?
JAZZ BABY - and in the words of the song ... that's me!
· When can we expect the book to be published?
I hit the limelight on October 22nd!
You can find Jazz Baby at ...
