Okay, so the blog idea is to talk about our current or next release...
• What is the title of my current work in progress?
• Where did the idea come from for the book?
My first historical Lily’s Leap comes out in May 2013 and there were so many characters that became my friends I just couldn’t let them go. It’s set in my home town – Wollombi, Australia. There is something special about writing about the place you call home. If I get blocked I just go for a walk with the dog and I can see it all happening right in front of my eyes.
• What genre does your book fall under?
• What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?
Matilda Sweet would be played by Scarlett Johansson and Christopher (Kit) Matcham by Daniel McPherson.
• What is the one sentence synopsis of your book?
The story of a forbidden love that cannot be denied in the hidebound colonial Victorian society of Australia in the 1850s
• Is your book self-published or represented by an agency?
Lyrical Press will publish Lily’s Leap in May 2013 I’m not sure about Matilda’s Madness…and I don’t have an agent...but it might be nice...
• How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?
Lily’s Leap took me about two months and I’m writing the first draft of Matilda’s Madness as part of NaNo and Bootcamp this year. I was lucky enough to get in on the Scandalous Entangled Smackdown Team (Go the Scandalmongers – sorry we get points for that!!) so I have had their fantastic support with my synopsis and of course, heaps of help from my long-suffering critique partners Eva Scott and Annie Seaton.
• What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
Too hard ... there are so many forbidden love stories ... I’m a sucker for all them.
• Who or what inspired you to write this book?
A real life historian by the name of Carl Hoipo. He painstakingly kept me on a straight and narrow timeline with Lily’s Leap and made sure I hadn’t made any historical blunders. It was the first romance he’d ever read! And then he wanted to know when I was writing the next one. Matilda’s Madness will be the second Wollombi Historical Romance. I’ve already got a mad idea for the third but I have to do some poking around in the local museum first - suffice to say there’s a very cool old theatre in town.
• What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
I think the setting will appeal, It is set in Australia with a bit of a Parisian back story especially as Wollombi today is still pretty much the same as it was back in the 1850s. It’s a pretty quirky place. You can check out Wollombi here if you’d like a sneak preview! http://www.visitwollombi.com.au/
PS Keep your eyes peeled for my first contemporary romance. It comes out on November 30th with Breathless Press. It’s called Tree Change. I’ve stuck with the Australian theme. It’s set in Sydney and a few other spots in NSW .You can read an excerpt here http://www.teacooperauthor.com/books.html
To see what some of my writer friends are doing, I’m going to tag.
Eva Scott, Zara Stonely and Allie A Burrow.
Three wonderful writers, I hope you enjoy hearing their story!
